Opening on Thursday, May 7 from 7 - 9 p.m., and continuing through June 20, 2009, the Susan Hobbs Gallery is pleased to present new work by Liz Magor. Three new works take the form of service objects�ashtrays, dishes and coffee tables�presenting themselves as a class of domestic servant. The operation of deceptive appearance is exploited in these sculptures as the casting method used to produce them results in highly realistic images assembled in unlikely arrangements. Ashtrays provide the model for these works, as dishes of high utility they are often tricked out as decorative objects to disguise their extreme role as receptacles of harsh material. �As sculptures they have given up their position as the �top� object in the room, assuming instead an attitude of patient waiting. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

 
 
Dedron: Nearest the Sun

Dedron: Nearest the Sun, the first exhibition ever devoted to the Tibetan female artist Dedron, will be staged by Rossi and Rossi in London W1, from Wednesday 6 May to Friday 12 June 2009. There will be some twelve recent works on view, offered for prices ranging from �1,500 to over �10,000. Dedron was born in Lhasa in 1976 and graduated from the Art department of Tibet University, Lhasa, in 1999. Call for Artists: 2009 Photo Review Photography Competition

Lesley Martin, Publisher of the Aperture Book Program, will be the juror for the 2009 Photo Review Photography Competition. The Photo Review, a highly acclaimed critical journal of photography, is sponsoring its 25th annual photography competition with a difference. Instead of only installing an exhibit that would be seen by a limited number of people, The Photo Review will reproduce accepted entries in its 2009 competition issue and on its website. Whole World Celebrates Together : Fang Ling-An

Chinese artist Fang Ling-An creates the first sculptural installation in the Jackman Goldwasser Catwalk Gallery with her solo exhibition, The Whole World Celebrates Together on view from May 3 to July 12, 2009.
