Dear mike,

This week, prepare to be illuminated as we focus on the world's First Biennale for International Light Art, under the title of Open Light in Private Spaces, held as part of European Capital of Culture Ruhr 2010. The exhibition features 60 artists who created special installations in a wide variety of locations - from summer houses to funeral homes. In addition, other than your customized content, this week's newsletter includes selected auction results from around the world, notably Pablo Picasso's Portrait de Femme, which was sold for 1,139,950 euros - more than three times the high estimate.

Enjoy!

Friends of The Hive Ga llery,

Come celebrate The Hive Gallery's 5 Year Annivesary show, April 3rd from 8PM-1AM. Being a hub for hundreds of Southern Californian artists with over 25 studio artists, The Hive is one of the first and most prominent galleries on the highly successful Downtown Artwalk. The Anniversary show will be an event you won't want to miss with 10 performances throughout the night, video projection, live painting and more. The art show will feature over 70 top artists exhibiting affordable artworks, many of which will be printed in The Hive's upcoming book entitled, "A Field Guide to the Denizens of Hiveland" (The Hiveland project was created 3 years ago by owner/curator Nathan Cartwright. Artists paint "Avatars" who live in this imaginary world and have been contributing content and imagery to the project since 2008.) The Mythological world of Hiv eland has been growing over the years, and curator Cartwright has Hive artists who have been featured in 2009 painting portraits of their "avatars" for the book.
In addition, specific artists from last year will be painting scenes of love in our themed show "Love  in Hiveland". As well, The Hive and Non-profit Global Inheritance present, "Think Big!", with 15 artists painting/sculpting on mini recycling bins that will be traveling to the Grammy's, Coachella, The Spirit awards and more!
