The exhibit showcases his evolving artistic vision, from tonally perfect black and white prints in the tradition of Ansel Adams, to hand-colored works and digital collages with a uniquely Orlandian twist. Exquisite, whimsical, quirky, spontaneous, insightful, his photography is all of the above. And more. Accidental light leaks become part of the composition, an obtrusive trash-can mimics a magnificent landscape, bold colors float on a black and white background... His preferred equipment? a $10 plastic camera. There is a distinctive impromptu characteristic that makes Ted Orland's photography look almost casual, yet he takes his work seriously enough to have written two books about the nature of the artmaking process. Like his writings, his photographs are rich in dialog, with titles often as interesting as the subjects. Imbued with a benign irony, his photographs carry the engaging power of a story half-told, leaving the viewer to speculate about what is really there. On the technical side, however, Orland is a no-nonsense pragmatist. He has consistently embraced the advancing technology of photography, moving from B&W darkroom-based printing to the present-day digital output over the course of a career that now spans four decades. Taken together, his collection of images reveals the 'incongruities of an uncertain world' and serves as a gentle satire of our modern condition, highlighting the unexpected intrusion of the artificial upon the natural, the secular upon the sacred... - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com | | Shane Guffogg: Communion Leslie Sacks Fine Art, Los Angeles, CA USA United States of America Color is by far the most prominent aspect of Guffoggs current paintings, which can be expressed as an equation whereby the raw power of color is contained by the strength of pattern (as determined by its clarity and intensity). While this is an accurate analysis it doesnt get at the essence of the work. The paintings in this show project the primal force and coherent intelligence of nature consciously experienced as an integrated whole. From another perspective there is a decidedly sensual side to Guffoggs work, but it is never merely carnal, nor merely a decorative carnival of color policed by pattern. The interwoven elements are too well organized and spontaneous to be either riotous or rigid. His works, like nature, are so consistently well integrated as to constitute a complete reality in and of themselves, and it is ultimately this integrity rather than color that most deeply involves the viewer. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com | | Lisa Adams The Future of Paradise Past Lawrence Asher Gallery, Los Angeles, CA USA United States of America Lawrence Asher Gallery is proud to present The Future Of Paradise Past, twelve recent oil paintings by Los Angeles artist Lisa Adams. The exhibition continues Adams cautious examination of a possible paradise that contains birds, botanical elements and enigmatic structures. This unfamiliar place offers the viewer an opportunity for Koanlike contemplation. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com | | International Artists Collaborate in Fight for Freedom Mount Beacon Fine Art Gallery, Beacon, NY USA United States of America For the months of January and February, 2009, the Mount Beacon Fine Art Gallery will host the international traveling exhibit FREEDOM&ART, a collaborative effort involving seventy-four artists from over twenty countries and six continents. The paintings are from the 2006 series "The Love of the Poet". For more information or to be a guest of Carolyn Blitz Fine Art, contact info@CarolynBlitzFineArt.com. Bottero's style is distinguished by the sureness of markings that interrupt the color fields to become part of his own visual language of images and signs. The emotional journey of life is the sublime substance for subtle abstract images that are messages from the soul. Beautifully colored backgrounds, forms and figures entice the viewer to become a part of the painting and create his or her own ending to a story both personal and universal. | | | The contemporary paintings of Daniel Bottero will be featured in Palm Beach at PB3 January 15-18. Jonathan Stein is a young artist who I met at Art Basel Miami Beach 2008. He recalls that we first met at Art Basel Miami Beach 2007. When I saw him one year later, it was his work that jogged my memory. As of this writing, Jonathan is creating cake installations and pop art based on celebrities of the day. His work is fun, satirical and very well done. I asked him for an interview and he agreed. His answer to my first question about how he was surviving as an artist was long and riveting. He answered many of my questions in one fell swoop so with his consent, I turned his single response into an entire conversation that we would've had anyway. You can see some of his work on his website at www.steinseye.com However, Stein remains larger than his art. Read on and find out why. MICHAEL: Hey Jonathan. Thanks for chatting. You seemed to be a hit at Art Basel Miami and I saw your work at a couple of satellite fairs. How do you describe yourself and where exactly do you live in Florida? Leave Your Comments
