Iconic Hepworth Sculpture "Curved Reclining Form (Rosewall)" Returns To Chesterfield

Barbara Hepworth's Rosewall returns to its plinth following its return to Chesterfield , Derbyshire. The sculpture has been bought by Chesterfield Borough Council from Royal Mail with support from The Art Fund charity and Chesterfield Waterside Partnership and the town's Per Cent for Art scheme. CHESTERFIELD.- A major sculpture by Dame Barbara Hepworth, one of the most significant artists of the 20th century, was unveiled today by the artist's granddaughter following its return home to Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Leading independent charity The Art Fund gave £345,000 to Chesterfield Borough Council to help buy Curved Reclining Form (Rosewall), 1960-62, so that the sculpture could be returned to the town which had been its home for over 40 years. Rosewall was sold to Chesterfield Borough Council by Royal Mail, the sculpture’s previous owners, for £500,000. Christie's Russian Art Sale Sets Record For Svetoslav Roerich at $2,994,500
NEW YORK.- Christie’s Russian Art sale set a world auction record for Svetoslav Roerich with a painting of his father entitled, Portrait of Nicholas Roerich in a Tibetan Robe, 1933, which sold for $2,994,500. The painting led Russian Art week in New York, and exceeded the pre-sale high estimate of $1,100,000. The previous record for a painting by the artist was $266,500, for Three Boddisatvas. John Wood: Quiet Protest at International Center of Photography

National Artists Enter Annual von Liebig Exhibition for First Time
NAPLES, FL.- The Naples Art Association at The von Liebig Art Center opened its annual statewide juried exhibition, Art Encounter, to national submissions for the first time and received submissions from 261 artists living in 36 states. Exhibition juror and awards judge Dahlia Morgan, Director Emerita for the Frost Art Museum at Florida International University in Miami and member of the Art Basel Miami Host Committee, selected 68 works by 60 artists from 12 states for the resulting National Art Encounter 2009 exhibition, which is on view May 16 through July 12 throughout the art center, 585 Park Street in Naples.
