Kuniyoshi From The Arthur R. Miller Collection Opens at The Royal Academy of Arts

LONDON.- This Spring, the Royal Academy of Arts presents an exhibition on one of the greatest Japanese print artists, Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797 – 1861). Featuring over 150 works, the exhibition will present Kuniyoshi as a master of imaginative design. It will reveal the graphic power and beauty of his prints across an unprecedented range of subjects highlighting his ingenuous use of the triptych format. The majority of the exhibition will be drawn from the outstanding collection of Professor Arthur R. Miller which has recently been donated to the American Friends of the British Museum. This is the first major exhibition in the United Kingdom on Utagawa Kuniyoshi since 1961.

The Mughal Empire was an Islamic dynasty descended from the Mongols that ruled most of India from 1526 to 1857. Leaders such as Shah Jahan, who is best known for building the Taj Mahal, commissioned vibrant illustrations and calligraphies from the greatest artists of the time. The imagery and techniques used by Mughal artists demonstrate the interaction between Persian and Indian painting traditions, Christian imagery, and European ideas about depth and perspective–developments that were revolutionary in their time....More

Denver Art Museum Asks: ARe You Experienced? With Psychedelic Rock Poster Collection
DENVER, CO.- The Denver Art Museum (DAM) celebrates the era that espoused free love, a vibrant rock music scene, and spectacular graphic design with The Psychedelic Experience: Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1965-1971. The exhibition will showcase more than 250 wildly experimental and visually stunning works from DAM’s newly acquired collection of posters promoting dance concerts and other “happenings” that have since become iconic symbols of the youth culture of the 1960s and 70s. SYDNEY.-The Art Gallery of New South Wales presents today Mountford Gifts: Focus Exhibition, on view through June 3, 2009. This focus exhibition highlights the 24 works that form the foundation of the Art Gallery of NSW Indigenous art collection. These art works where gifted by the Commonwealth Government in 1956 after being collected by Charles Pearcy Mountford 12 years earlier. Charles Pearcy Mountford (1890-1976) had a diverse career but is remembered for his work within the field of anthropology. Brooklyn Museum Increases Admissions
BROOKLYN, NY.- The Brooklyn Museum announced today that it will increase its suggested admission fee to $10 for adults and to $6 for older adults and students with valid identification, effective Saturday, March 21, 2009. Admission, which has not been increased since 2004, is currently $8 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. Admission for Target First Saturdays, the Museum's evening of art and entertainment, will continue to be free from 5 to 11 p.m. as will general admission for Members and children under 12 accompanied by an adult. Target First Saturdays are also supported through funds from a major endowment from the Wallace Foundation....More
