Ike Udo - Paris Hilton: Fantasy and Simulacrum
Stux Gallery, New York, NY USA United States of America

Stux Gallery is pleased to announce 'Paris Hilton: Fantasy and Simulacrum', an exhibition of new paintings, sculptures and photographs by the New York based Nigerian born, American artist, publisher and style icon, Ik Ud. Through a myriad of modalities, Ud laments and celebrates the rise of celebrity journalism and the ensuing media phenom that is Paris Hilton, America's very own Princess Diana. 'Fame comes in all manner of forms: There's Paris Hilton kind of fame, there's Madonna, Mahatma Ghandi, Hitler, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Al Capone, Coco Chanel, Gorge Bush and Obama... There's no single ethical standard or moral yardstick by which to judge or measure the quality of fame-if there is, the line between fame and notoriety in our contemporary framework, is virtually a blur.'- Ik Ud - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Random Utterness 2: Mara Bodis-Wollner, Andras Borocz, Andrea Dezso, Shandor Hassan, Thomas Lendvai, Anna Pasztor and Tamas Revesz
Hungarian Cultural Center, New York, NY USA United States of America

The Hungarian Cultural Center is pleased to present Random Utterness 2, the second installment of a group exhibition featuring the recent work of New York-based artists of Hungarian origin. The exhibition brings together photographs, videos, artists books, photo-based installations, and objects. Appearing in the interiors of homes, the female protagonists of Mara Bodis-Wollners videos reenact socially conditioned rituals of intimacy and perform the everyday rituals of domesticity. Fragments of conversation appear in moving images that are evocative of classical still-life painting and propose a cinematic reclamation of the patriarchal order of painting. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

SCOPE MIAMI 2008
Michael Corbin, USA

Upon entering, you realize that you're at the forefront. Like everyone else, you came to scope out the joint and quickly see that it's more cutting edge than most art fairs. And so, from step one, you comb this contemporary space almost in a trance.

I barely got through the front door when I saw Costa Rican artist Lucia Madriz on her knees in a corner studiously working on a mixed media installation she calls, "EAT."

Lucia and a friend were carefully gluing about 100 pounds of popcorn kernels onto a four foot by six foot long spread of paper with the word "EAT" printed on the front. It was clear that placing the paper canvas on the floor was the most effective way to create the piece. Madriz is concerned about the increasing use of corn and other cash crops for things like ethanol to power our vehicles rather than feeding the world's hungry.
