Shaun Gladwell critically and poetically links personal experience with contemporary culture and historical references through performance, video, painting, photography and sculpture. His works engage these concerns through forms of urban expression such as skateboarding, hip-hop, graffiti, BMX bike riding, break-dancing and most recently, extreme sports. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com | | Regina Jose Galindo Exit Art Gallery, New York, NY USA United States of America Regina Jose Galindo - the second exhibition in Exit Art's SOLO series and the first in the Performance in Crisis program - is a ten-year survey of performance and installation work by the Guatemalan artist Regina Jose Galindo. The highlight of this important retrospective is the New York premiere of a new work, Cloth, to be performed only once: on the opening night of this exhibition. Cloth is part of a performance trilogy titled Crisis, for which Regina Jose Galindo will enact a series of transactions that reference and critique our current moment of economic instability. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com | | Seamlessly Lost : Bingyi Erna Hecey Gallery, Brussels, BE Belgium Erna Hecey is pleased to present Seamlessly Lost, the first solo exhibition of Bingyi in Europe. One of the most ambitious and provocative painters of her generation from China, Bingyi is known for her large-scale conceptual painting projects, which she terms 'largescape'. Seamlessly Lost is a site-specific composition of an impressive scale. It is a one-piece 40 meters long and over 3 meters high linen canvas. The painting sprawls over the entire wall of the main space at Erna Hecey Gallery, echoing the ancient cave paintings from Lascaux in Southern France. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com | | Digita l'09 : Mysteries in Science New York Hall of Science, Queens, NY USA United States of America Digital'09 : Mysteries in Science, organized by Art & Science Collaborations, Inc. Recently, I was honored to give the keynote address at the National Association of Independent Artists 2009 meeting (www.naia-artists.org). The theme was "Art Stimulus Plan 2009-2010," which was the focus of my speech which went very well and provoked some pretty cool discussion. Here's the speech: "I'm here to talk about art, but I need to say something here first that's weighing heavily on me. You may also feel the same. I'm finding what's happening in this country right now very troubling. The conflict, the fear, the rumors, the meanness, the drama, the political game playing on all sides, the over-arching philosophy of the day that says if I don't agree with you or you don't agree with me, then you must be destroyed. We have got to stop this. We're like a dog chasing its tail. It's like we're children hopelessly trapped in the oral phase of our psychological and social development. We have got to evolve past this. Leave Your Comments
