An Exhibition by Philippine Artist Carlo Magno
Karin Weber Gallery, SoHo, HK Hong Kong

The Philippine abstract artist, Carlo Magno, will be staging his 1st solo painting exhibition at the Karin Weber Gallery in Hong Kong from 14th October to 4th November 2009. Carlo was a former realist artist who turned to abstract art for the love of freedom of expression. What we are seeing are works by a mature artist who is never inhibited to experiment with novel concepts and different medium. Using a palette knife, sand to create shapes and textures, and a sense of composition exploring the total canvas area, Carlo Magno indulges in all shades of blue. These hues go from deep sea blue with light dappling through to a light lagoon blue and melting into turquoise. Perhaps we are on an isolated island floating in a deep blue sea. The colors are refreshing and energizing at the same time. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Justin Beal, Lena Daly, Kate Owens
Jancar Jones Gallery, San Francisco, CA USA United States of America

The Jancar Jones Gallery is pleased to announce a group exhibit of the work of artists Justin Beal, Lena Daly and Kate Owens. The exhibit will represent the work of artists from different geographic regions who address both texture and form in a similar manner, while also subtly engaging and referencing popular culture. While both Owens and Beal employ readymade or industrial materials such as cling wrap, soda bottles, mirrors, etc. in their sculptural work, the subdued yet bold values which emerge share a close affinity with those in Daly's prints of fabric, paper or reflective surfaces. There is a formalism present in all the work, which in the case of Beal can be quite architectonic while the works of Owens and Daly can abstractly iterate the qualities of water-based media. In spite of their use of the everyday, Beal, Owens, and Daly share an attentiveness to perception and how these object-based works can affect an altered presence. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Heimo Zobernig: Monochromes
Simon Lee Gallery, London, UK United Kingdom

And maybe it is not even like that!
Alberto Sughi

In an old notebook I recently found this paragraph, which I would like to underline. "work until late at night, concentrating on an internal conflict that I find impossible to resolve. I still hope to be able to produce something good; but I need to receive a few "brilliant ideas". If they don't come, I'll have to put the work off for longer. I imagine that this is what's going to happen, because it isn't really a question of a few "brilliant ideas".

The fact is that nothing in our state of mind is ever clear, and our painting suffers from this lack of certainty. Sometimes I feel that the meaning of my work is exclusively connected to the production of a painting; to its continuous references and modifications; to small discoveries, like rafts to which a shipwrecked man clings, and which then sink to the depths, taking with them lines, colours and pseudo-meanings.
