China in Four Seasons: Jin Jiangbo
Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth, NZ New Zealand (Aotearoa)

Opening 4 July 2009, the vast and penetrating photographs of acclaimed artistJin Jiangbomark the beginning of theGovett-Brewsters major seriesChina in Four Seasons.Eschewing the national survey format in favour of a year long project comprising four exhibitions and residencies, this series presents to New Zealand audiences the extraordinary power, singularity and insight of certain artists working inChinatoday.Against a backdrop of worldwide economic malaise, Jin Jiangbo presents recent series of photographic works begun in 2007. Using series titles such as Great Economic Retreat, Chinese Market Scene and Shanghai, Shanghai, his arresting panaromas offer an immediate response to the complex fabric within the unique socialist economic landscape of China as it negotiates within wider frames ofglobalisation and integration. . - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Demuth's Destinations
Demuth Museum, Lancaster, PA USA United States of America

The Demuth Museums forthcoming exhibition, Demuths Destinations will explore the artists travels in the United States and abroad in relation to his ground breaking Modernist art. Following his study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Charles Demuth (1883-1935) made his permanent residence and studio in his family home in Lancaster, creating the vast majority of his art there. Yet the artist led a peripatetic lifestyle, traveling regularly to Philadelphia, New York and Provincetown. Demuth also made several trips to Europe throughout his life, including stays in Paris, London and Berlin. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Brigitta Kocsis: Secret Mechanisms
Campbell River Public Art Gallery, Campbell River, BC CA Canada

Campbell River Public Art Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition by Brigitta Kocsis entitled 'Secret Mechanisms'. Kocsis' new project will be shown at the Main Gallery and the Discovery Gallery. 'Secret Mechanisms' explores how technology can alter perception by interacting with the methods and processes involved in how the human body works. The tension contained within the bodies of the characters, due to the pervasive technologies, communicates a sense of contemporary environment in its fractured state. Brigitta Kocsis has been a member of absolutearts.com since 2006. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

FOUR AT THE START curated by Alice Aycock
Salomon Contemporary, East Hampton, NY USA United States of America

Salomon Contemporary is pleased to present FOUR AT THE START featuring Vito Acconci, Laurie Anderson, George Trakas and Jackie Winsor, curated by Alice Aycock. The title of this exhibition references the start of the careers in the early to mid 70s of these four prominent artists. The work presented by each artist marks a pivotal juncture in his or her career that made an indelible mark in the art discourse at the time. Collectively these are all considered breakthrough pieces and exude a rawness that was new by challenging the accepted doctrine of minimalism at that moment in history. The works engaged in a style that bridged sculpture, architecture and the environment with a heavy emphasis on content and process. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Clearly Canadian: Phil & Kat Taylor
Michael Corbin

Phil and Kat Taylor are husband and wife art collectors. They live just outside Toronto, Canada which is a cool art city. One day, out of the blue, Phil emailed me and we started chatting about our common interest. I thought that he would make a great interview subject. He has a forthright, down to earth, yet very polite air about him. To me, this makes him "Clearly Canadian." Read on and you'll see.

MICHAEL: Hi Phil. Thanks for talking with me. You and your wife Kat (Katherine) are collectors. What got you into collecting? How did you begin?
