The intimate portraits by Michel Comte (*1954) are a homage to women. Whether elaborately dressed by top designers or stripped down to only delicate skin, Comte always manages to sneak a glance into the depths of one's character revealing the secrets they were trying so hard to conceal. The foundation and ultimately the secret behind every one of his shoots is the dialogue between the photographer and his model; his photographs are never a planned staging but more the result of a silent understanding and a mutual respect.
The collaboration between "Veruschka" Vera Lehndorff (*1939) and Holger Trülzsch (*1939) is just as personal. In the early 1970s, Vera Lehndorff, who became a fashion icon as the worlds’ first supermodel "Veruschka," began a series of conceptual photographs with sculptor, photographer, and video artist, Trülzsch. In their Mimicry Art series the figure Veruschka refuses to be a projection screen for ideals of beauty; she retains her very personal aura in these body painting images. Diffused in bolts of energy, in bizarre particle streams, and in psychedelic plays of color that reflect London in the 1960s, Veruschka transcends her body and delves into a world that translates the glamour of an icon into a sensually experiential image.
The conceptual works of Ralph Ueltzhoeffer (*1966) are yet another approach to portraiture. His works cleverly combine images and texts which the artist finds on the World Wide Web and in other mass media. Ueltzhoeffer portrays people who are subject to public scrutiny or who live their lives in the public eye. Their image is used as a screen, on which the artist projects their biography or symbolic fragments of text.
Although all the three focus on the same subject matter, each artist’s approach is unique and original. We very much look forward to your visit in our gallery!
