Russian Art's New Vanguard

Russian Art's New Vanguard
Touted as the next heir to the cultural capitals of Russia alongside Moscow and St Petersburg is Perm, where a cultural revival highlighting edgy contemporary art is taking place. The new avant garde mecca is nestled in the foothills of the Ural Mountains where amongst galleries and installations the new art museum center PermMuseumXXI is being developed. For a city that was in decline in 2005, enterprising investors rapidly transformed it by offering attractive prospects to artists and dealers.   more...

The Art Newspaper
Published: Nov 3, 2009
15 drop-outs but 21 newcomers for the fine art and antiques event There were signs of market recovery at the Haughtons' 21st International Fine Art & Antique Dealers fair at the Park Avenue Armory, New York, from 16-22 October. "Some dealers have said they've seen clients they haven't seen in two or three years," said Anna Haughton, who reported a sea change in mood from June when dealers were "apprehensive".
Art market bounces back, but still not a pretty picture
AFP
Published: Oct 30, 2009
Quick sales at decent prices at this month's contemporary art fairs in London and Paris indicate the market bouncing back from trauma but still not a pretty picture, experts said. "The market is down but not out. Volumes and values are down, but there is a renewed confidence and a renewed spirit," Georgina Adam of The Art Newspaper told AFP.
